Max Cavalera joins David Ellefson for a powerful deep dive into their time working together on Prophecy, reflecting on the freedom of those sessions, the late-night jams, and even spray-painting guitars gold. David shares stories of being called to tour at the last minute, playing for Will Smith, and how Gloria Cavalera held it all together behind the scenes. The two reminisce about recording at Salt Mine Studios, writing raw songs on four-tracks, and creating a nameless groove that became one of Max’s favorite moments on the album. Max reflects on Chaos A.D. and look to the upcoming Cavalera tour with Fear Factory tour.

3 OG bassists coming to honor 4 trailblazers.

1 unforgettable moment.

Back to the Beginning made it happen.

Though our careers have taken us down many different exciting paths, we all came up together—watching each other grow, grind, and rise. That’s what made this moment so special: bringing it back in honor of the four who started it all, and paved the way for the rest of us to follow.

True roots. Real respect. Full circle.

What an event!

Back to the Beginning was truly a show for the ages—bringing together so many friends and heroes on one unforgettable stage.

It was an honor to perform alongside the powerhouse Lzzy Hale, the commanding David Draiman, and the legendary Scott Ian once again. And what a thrill to finally make music with Mike Bordin, Adam Wakeman, and Nuno Bettencourt—a dream lineup in every sense.

But one of the biggest full-circle moments for me was performing and hanging with the incomparable Jake E. Lee. I first saw Jake play in Sioux Falls, SD back in 1982, during my senior year of high school when he had just joined Ozzy Osbourne’s band. A few months later, in the summer of 1983, I packed up and headed to Los Angeles to begin my own career.

Jake has always been a massive inspiration—his tone, energy, and fearless playing lit a fire in me that never went out. To now call him a friend and share the stage with him? That’s a rare kind of full circle I’ll never take for granted.

It was great catching up with Axl Rose after all these years… Guns N' Roses absolutely crushed it at Back To The Beginning! Their cover of Black Sabbath’s “Never Say Die” was a standout moment for me.
